Muita gente gostaria de ganhar o telefone celular que supostamente a Nokia e a Ericsson estariam oferecendo a quem enviasse e-mails. Porém, trata-se de mais duas correntes de mensagens falsas (hoaxes), que vêm circulando com grande intensidade nos últimos dias via correio eletrônico.

Se bem que o simples bom senso já permitisse adivinhar a fraude, como também bastaria o internauta enviar a mensagem para os citados endereços de e-mail para comprovar, pelo retorno das mensagens, que eles não existem. Outra forma de comprovar a fraude é simplesmente visitar os sites das empresas na Internet.

O internauta Evandro Gadelha, que vem colecionando essas falsas mensagens, retransmitiu a Novo Milênio as respostas das empresas citadas, que comprovam a fraude. Tanto a Ericsson como a Nokia confirmam que não há qualquer oferta do gênero e também que a origem da fraude está sendo apurada. A Ericsson informa ainda que a pessoa citada, Anna Swelund, não existe em seus quadros de pessoal.

Chain letter is a fraud [First published 10 April 2000] A chain letter is currently in circulation via e-mail, suggesting that Ericsson is giving away WAP phones. The e-mail is a fraud and Ericsson is not giving away phones for free.  The following is an extract from the letter: “If you forward it [the letter] to 20 friends, you will receive the brand new Ericsson R320 WAP-phone.” The letter is signed off Anna Swelund, Executive Promotion Manager for Ericsson Marketing. This person does not exist at Ericsson. The legal and IT departments at Ericsson will trace the person who initiated the illegal chain letter. Hoaxes - São estas, com eventual variação, as mensagens falsas. Ambas se referem ao novo sistema Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), que aguarda regulamentação da Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel) para funcionar no Brasil (possivelmente a partir de maio/2000), e que permite acessar a Internet através de um navegador (browser) especial, de funções mais limitadas que os dos computadores, baseado nesse protocolo WAP.

A primeira mensagem falsa, que está circulando principalmente entre as empresas de  transporte marítimo de cargas no Brasil, se refere à Nokia:
